Allecus was founded by Dr. Veranda Melton — a Registered Nurse with 40+ years of bedside experience and a Doctor of Nursing Practice. Our in-house training team brings a combined 40+ years of caregiver-training experience. Every Allecus caregiver completes the program before they meet your family.

The Founder, Not A Franchise
Allecus was founded by Dr. Veranda Melton after four decades in nursing. Every element of the company — the care plan, the caregiver training, the family follow-up — runs through a Registered Nurse.
The Founder's Own Words
"This journey began not as a business idea, but as a calling. After decades in nursing leadership and witnessing countless lives fall through the cracks, I knew we needed a better system — one that treats every individual with dignity, no matter their background or condition."
— Dr. Veranda Melton, RN, DNP, Founder of Allecus Assurance Group
In-House Caregiver Training
Every caregiver who walks into an Allecus family's home has first been trained through our program. Our training team has a combined 40+ years of training caregivers — covering dementia care, fall prevention, medication reminders, and personal-care standards.

Built For The Whole Community
Seniors, veterans, adults with mental-health needs, individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Allecus was designed to serve every member of the Tuscaloosa community — not just one demographic. Most home-care agencies cover one. We cover them all.

Why Allecus
Most home care in Alabama is run by business owners who hire caregivers off the street. Allecus is different at every step.
Allecus runs its own caregiver training program. Our training team has a combined 40+ years of training caregivers, with Dr. Melton overseeing the program. Every caregiver completes it before they're ever assigned to a family — so your loved one never meets an untrained stranger.
Most home-care founders have 10 years in business. Dr. Melton has four decades at the bedside — which is why every Allecus care plan is written clinically, not from a sales script.
From the first phone call, to the written care plan, to the caregiver in your home — you are dealing with a nurse-led organization, not a call center handing you off to whoever is available.
Seniors, veterans, adults with mental-health needs, individuals with intellectual disabilities. Most agencies serve seniors only. Allecus was built for the whole community.
Allecus wasn't opened by a national brand looking for franchise territory. It was built in Alabama by a nurse who has lived and worked here for decades — and every caregiver is hired, trained, and supervised locally.
At most agencies the intake is done by a salesperson. At Allecus, your loved one's care plan is written by Dr. Melton's RN-led team — the way hospitals do it.
How It Works
Most families in Tuscaloosa have a caregiver matched within a week of the initial consultation.
Tell us about your loved one. We'll listen, ask the right questions, and explain how Allecus differs from every other agency in Tuscaloosa.
Dr. Melton's team builds a personalized care plan based on your loved one's medical history, routine, and goals — not a template.
We match you with a caregiver who has completed our in-house training program. If the fit isn't right, we make it right — no contracts, no friction.
FAQ
Allecus operates its own in-house caregiver training program, overseen by Dr. Melton. Our training team has a combined 40+ years of training caregivers. Before any caregiver is assigned to a family, they complete the program — covering dementia care, fall prevention, medication reminders, and personal care. Other agencies rely on whatever training a caregiver brought with them. We don't.
Our primary service area is Tuscaloosa and Northport. We also serve Birmingham, Hoover, Vestavia Hills, and Mountain Brook by case assignment. If you're outside those areas, call us — we may still be able to help or refer you to someone we trust.
Rates depend on the type of care, number of hours, and complexity of the care plan. We don't publish a single rate because every family's situation is different, and we'd rather walk you through a real estimate than hide behind a starting price. Your free consultation includes a clear, line-item quote with no pressure to sign.
No. Dr. Melton built Allecus to serve the whole community: seniors needing non-medical personal care, veterans, adults with mental-health challenges, and individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities. Most home-care agencies in Alabama serve seniors only. Allecus doesn't.
For most families, we can have a trained caregiver in place within a week of the initial consultation. For urgent situations — a hospital discharge, a sudden decline, a caregiver who can no longer continue — we can often move faster. Tell us your timeline on the consultation call and we'll be straight with you about what's possible.
Matching matters. If the fit isn't right — personality, schedule, communication — tell us and we'll match you with someone else at no additional cost. There are no long-term contracts, and you can adjust or pause service with reasonable notice.
We work with most long-term care insurance policies and help families navigate VA Aid & Attendance benefits. We'll walk you through what's covered, what documentation your insurer needs, and whether your specific policy applies. Medicaid waiver programs are handled case-by-case — ask on the consultation call.
Most families get a faster answer by calling or texting (205) 703-2922. If email works better for you, leave your info here and we'll reach out within two business hours.
No contracts. No sales pressure. Just answers from a nurse-led team.
Most home-care agencies in Alabama are run by business owners. Ours is run by a nurse with 40 years of experience — and every caregiver we send into your home is trained in-house by a team with 40+ combined years of caregiver-training experience.
