"Dr. Melton's team treated mama like family. The caregiver they sent was calm, kind, and knew exactly what to do when mama had a bad day. We finally feel like we can breathe."

"After my dad's stroke, three other agencies sent caregivers who showed up unprepared. Allecus sent someone who had clearly been trained — she knew the transfer technique, she knew the meds, she knew dad. Night and day."

"They asked me the questions a nurse asks — not a salesperson. By the end of the first call I knew Dr. Melton's team would take care of my husband the right way. Six months in, that's exactly what's happened."

Why Allecus

A well-established leadership team — with deep expertise where it matters most.

Most home care in Alabama is owned by national brands shopping franchise territory. Allecus is the opposite — built in Alabama, led by Dr. Melton and a team whose expertise spans the full picture of aging well.

Caregiver training that goes beyond the clinical

We train caregivers in financial literacy and self-care alongside the clinical skills. "You can't pour from an empty vessel." Caregivers who are supported show up stronger for your loved one.

Care of the elderly

Decades of focused expertise in helping aging adults stay safe, comfortable, and dignified at home — across personal care, fall prevention, medication reminders, and daily living support.

Patient & client advocacy

We stand in your corner with doctors, hospitals, and insurers. When your loved one can't speak up for themselves — and you're stretched thin — we make sure their wishes and best interests are heard.

Innovative techniques for cognitive impairment

Music therapy, aroma therapy, and pet therapy — woven into daily care for clients with dementia and other cognitive changes. We reach for the whole person, not just the diagnosis.

Managing challenging dementia cases

Including frontal-lobe and Lewy Body dementia — conditions many agencies aren't equipped to handle. Our team has the experience to navigate the hardest days with calm, structure, and dignity.

Alabama-rooted, not a national franchise

Allecus wasn't opened by a national brand looking for franchise territory. It was built in Alabama by a leadership team that's lived and worked here for decades — and every caregiver is hired and supervised locally.

FAQ

Answers to the questions families ask most.

How are Allecus caregivers prepared? +

Every caregiver is hired, prepared, and supervised directly by our nurse care specialists. Dr. Melton's 40 years in nursing and caregiver training means our standards run deeper than the basics — dementia care, fall prevention, medication reminders, personal care, plus financial literacy and self-care for the caregivers themselves. Other agencies rely on whatever training a caregiver brought with them. We don't.

What areas do you serve? +

Our primary service area is Tuscaloosa and Northport. We also serve Birmingham, Hoover, Vestavia Hills, and Mountain Brook by case assignment. If you're outside those areas, call us — we may still be able to help or refer you to someone we trust.

How much does home care cost? +

Rates depend on the type of care, number of hours, and complexity of the care plan. We don't publish a single rate because every family's situation is different, and we'd rather walk you through a real estimate than hide behind a starting price. Your free consultation includes a clear, line-item quote with no pressure to sign.

Who do you serve? +

Seniors needing non-medical personal care, veterans qualifying for VA Aid & Attendance, and adults living with chronic illness or recovery needs. If you're caring for a loved one and aren't sure whether we can help, call us — we'll be straight with you about whether Allecus is the right fit.

How quickly can care begin? +

We offer responsive care services for urgent needs. Hospital discharge, sudden decline, a caregiver who can no longer continue — tell us your timeline on the consultation call and we'll be straight with you about what's possible.

What if the caregiver isn't the right fit? +

Matching matters. If the fit isn't right — personality, schedule, communication — tell us and we'll match you with someone else at no additional cost. There are no long-term contracts, and you can adjust or pause service with reasonable notice.

Do you accept long-term care insurance, VA benefits, or Medicaid waivers? +

We work with most long-term care insurance policies and help families navigate VA Aid & Attendance benefits. We'll walk you through what's covered, what documentation your insurer needs, and whether your specific policy applies. Medicaid waiver programs are handled case-by-case — ask on the consultation call.
